Balearic Islands Eco Tax Introduction
From 1st July 2016 holidaymakers visiting the Balearics Islands, including Mallorca, will be required to pay a Sustainable Tourism Tax which has been introduced by the Balearic Government, the Government plan to use this tax revenue to protect the Balearic Environment and fund projects, helping to make the islands more attractive to the people visiting and people living there.
The amount of tax to be paid depends on the star rating of the hotel and will range from €1 in a 3 star to €2 in a 5 star, per person per day. Children under the age of 16 are exempt from the tax and long term holidaymakers will have a 50% discount on the tax from the ninth day of their stay.
The tax will be payable locally and collected by hotels and apartments upon check-in.
