Salou is located on the north east coast of mainland Spain, in the province of Tarragona, in Catalonia, the area is known as the Costa Dorada, the main entry points by air are Reus approximately 7 miles away and Barcelona which is just over 60 miles away. Salou is the tourist capital of the Costa Dorada and is very popular due to excellent amenities, beautiful beaches and fabulous Mediterranean climate. Aside from its string of beaches and buzzing resort centre, one of its main attractions is the Port Aventura Theme Park Resort, originally built by Universal Parks & Resorts, owners of Universal Studios in Florida.
In Salou you can find a high variety of restaurants, including many Mediterranean restaurants serving Paella as their main dish, although the standard of cuisine is generally quite casual, for more upmarket cuisine, walk up the promenade towards the Marina and you'll find many high quality restaurants in this area. Salou attracts many different age groups and has a good nightlife scene during the summer months. There are many bars in the resort, as well some late night clubs including Snoepy's, Bus Stop, Tropical Salou and the famous nightclub chain; Pacha.
There are plenty of small souvenir shops, especially in the streets along the beach. You can find some upmarket boutiques further up the promenade, near the station and marina. More upmarket shopping is also located in the old town with a market every Monday. A shopping centre is located in Vila-Seca across the road from PortAventura called Port Halley. Barcelona and Tarragona offers more extensive shopping and can be reached by using the many public transport services.

Salou has a typically Mediterranean climate meaning warm summers with plenty of sunshine and mild winters. There are rarely extremes in temperature, it has a good balance; summer temperatures are a little cooler and more comfortable than the resorts of southern Spain, while winter temperatures are milder than those felt in northern Europe but cooler than the Southern resorts. Temperatures average 28ºC over the peak summer months, with spring and autumn temperatures reaching around the mid 20's. Water temperatures range from 17ºC in May to 25ºC in August.

Getting Around

Transfers from Reus to Salou are pretty straight forward and quick, it takes on average just 30 minutes to reach the resort centre from the airport, once in the resort itself, you'll find most is walkable, however there are regular bus services and taxi's are plentiful and relatively cheap. To get to Port Aventura theme park which is on the outskirts of the resort, you can use the train from the Promenade, or use the bus or jump a taxi.
